When discussing the performance of a window or door, attention often focuses on the glass, the design, or the frame material. However, there are less visible components that have a direct impact on comfort and efficiency; in this article, we’ll take a look at TPE gaskets and trim strips with weatherstripping built into the frame at the factory.
These components play a critical role in the system, as they properly seal the joints to prevent air and water leaks, improve insulation, and maintain performance over time.

What are TPE seals?

TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) seals are flexible seals that are integrated directly into the profiles during the manufacturing process using a technology called coextrusion.
Unlike traditional systems, where weatherstripping or gaskets are installed later as separate parts, coextrusion allows the profile and the seal to form a single, integrated piece from the outset.

The result is a component designed to fit precisely to the profile’s geometry, maintaining uniform pressure and greater stability over time. TPE gaskets function as a continuous barrier between the different parts of a window or door.
When the panel closes, the seal is compressed, creating an airtight seal that:

  • Reduces the inflow of outside air.
  • Prevents water leakage caused by rain or wind.
  • Reduces unwanted drafts.
  • Helps improve thermal and acoustic insulation.
  • Helps maintain consistent system performance.

  • Because they are integrated directly into the profile, these gaskets maintain precise and uniform alignment around the entire perimeter of the enclosure.

Installed at the factory, they eliminate one of the main factors that can affect a system’s performance: subsequent manual installation. With solutions integrated from the outset, you gain advantages such as:

  • Greater sealing uniformity
  • Lower risk of shifting or deformation
  • More efficient installation
  • Cleaner, more aesthetically pleasing finishes

  • A window's performance does not depend solely on its visible components. The technology used in details such as joints and seals can make a significant difference in terms of airtightness, comfort, and durability.

Co-extruded TPE gaskets and trim strips with built-in weatherstripping represent an evolution in profile design, enabling more efficient systems that perform more consistently throughout their service life. Because when every detail works together, the result is better performance for the entire system.
